With rapid development of China's economy, and increasing demand for coal energy, the coal mine production safety is brought to highlight level. Every year, high levels of methane explosion is a serious threat to the safety of coal mine workers. So, enhancing the coal mine production safety, especially strengthening the monitoring of the production site environment, plays a vital role in reducing or even avoiding the occurrence of coal mine production. The coal mine production safety monitoring system is mainly to monitor the concentration of methane. In coal production, the monitoring system has been used mandatorily.The substation of methane monitoring is the core equipment of the coal mine production safety monitoring system. It not only undertaking the task of exchange data with the ground computer system, but also collecting the data of its subequipments. The implementation of substation's communication is based on the RS485 bus and the format of MODBUS protocol. In hardware level, it is designed with communicating of the RS485 electric circuit and Serial Communication. In the communication way, it uses half-duplex, and master-slave approach to exchange data. Before the work starts, the computer sends data to the matching substation equipment to configurate, and the substation equipment exchanges data which depends on the configuration. On this basis, the substation determines onsite environment according to sensor data, then it achieves the function of device control. In addition, the substation is equipped with EEPROM memory which stores configuration parameters. If there is a power off exception, the substation can run properly after the restoration of electricity.In the development of the substation system, I am responsible for the design of hardware, software and communication protocol. The design of hardware includes the microcontroller, the external circuit, the RS485 driver circuit and the module of substation display. In embedded-system's software, the design includes the communication of RS485, which collects and deals with communication data, to determine the sensor data and to control equipment. In communication protocol, it includes the format of communication protocol, the distribute of data content and the realization of system functions.At present, the system had been applied in coal production site. Compared with the traditional monitoring system, the system based on RS485 communication means has obvious advantages on data exchanging, cabling and data transmission. Meanwhile, the system based on reliable substation is stabler than the traditional monitoring system. The data transmission of the system is efficient, which has highly real-time and efficiency. The system is playing a certain role in the coal mine production industry .
