A series of significant events, such as the opening of the 3rd Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Deng Xiaoping's trip in southern areas in 1992 and China's entry to WTO, witness the drastic development of Chinese economy. The economy has been the main stream of this era. Economic review shows its significance in the process of social, economic and newspaper development. Economic review shows more in theory and guidance than messages and others like these, and also the subject scope of economic review is more extensive than others like the fields in politics, military, sports and entertainment. Economic review plays an important role in explaining economic policies, leading social opinions and guiding reader's behaviors. Comprehensive and special newspaper present different style through the sample analysis on People Daily, Economy Daily and The 21st Century Business Herald.Comprehensive newspaper emphasizes particularly the comment on macro-level while specialized-oriented newspaper pays more attention to its specialty with more guidance in it. Timely report is emphasized more in specialized-oriented newspaper than Comprehensive newspaper. However, comprehensive newspaper reads more rich style and content than specialized-oriented newspaper.This thesis puts forward some suggestions based on current characteristics, functions and status. The authors should take reader's awareness into account and apply"small-scope communication"to objective reader. The review should be oriented to forecasting the events. Chinese economic events are becoming more complicated and internationalized with China's entry to WTO, so a news analyst should pay more attention to the study of the entry's effects.In addition, economic review in local areas has broader development space, which not only satisfies the requirements of readers but an indispensable step of newspaper development.
