The Frame Analysis Of Economic News In The Party Newspaper

Framing t heory is thriving in the media studies.It is a convincing explanatory theory when applied to explain how reporters frame,define the outlines,set goals,and how the recipient sare affected.Besides,the current research literature lacks systematic research and process analysis on the media coverage,especially on the framing process in the reports of the Party's newspapers,as well as the ideological control,news values,personal values of journalists and the reasons for the organizational cul ture behind the framework.Based on the framing theory,this paper analyzes how Nanfang Daily report the ways,influencing factors and the construction results of China's national economic achievements through selecting and resetting news frames,trying to clarify the way that the mass media constructs the country's economic achievem entsand the problems within the process,so as to explore the ultimate goal of effective communication.This research selects some repre sentative economic issues in Nanfang Daily economi creports,and analyzes the contents and texts of each covera ge.The economic issues are chosen based on the following criteria: grand themes,a certain time span,direct or indirect participation,traceable news source and whether planners and participants are willing to have interview.The chosen issues that will be discussed in details are : “ China's accession to the WTO”,“2010 Shanghai World Expo” and “ Guangdong province once again take the responsi bility of the Reform and Opening Up policy(Shua ng Cheng Hui)” and “The Financial Crisis in 2008”.The reasons why Nanfang Daily was taken as the research objective are as follows,first,Nanfang Daily and it's location Guangdong province are typical objects of study for the newspaper's circulation and provinci al economy respectively.The circulation of Nanfang Daily has topped the provincial party newspapers rankings for32 years while Guangdong province's GDP has ranked first nationwide for successive 28 years.Second,as t he “Strength of Character in the South” among the press,Nanfang Daily has a great influence on the professional news operations.Last but not least,Nanfang Daily is the first provi ncial party newspaper putting forward“ the market-oriented party newspaper approach ” and shoulders the reforming and exploring responsibilities among traditional medias,it's economic news have won several national awards already.This paper analyzes the economic news reports of Nanfang Daily by text analysis method through textual analys is of the high-level,middle-level and bottom-level structure theories of the applicati on framework,analyze s the framework differences of these events,including the theme,the content,the rhetorical terms,the values tendency as well as the positive and negative deviation.And through the in-depth interview and oral history,this research also analyz es the news selection considerations of the relevant content producers and dissects their reports in the framework of the political position,the value of coverage,personal values tendencies and organizational culture.To sum up,this research is trying to clarify the various reasons of provincial party newspaper's changeable framework on reporting the national economic achievements for more than ten years.The purpose of this research is to fix the gap of the previous research on the procedure of constructing the framing theory and the reasons of its formation.
