In recent years, with the fast development of mobile communication, there are increasing requirements for the quality of the mobile communication service networks. The important meaning of the networks covering the whole range is outstanding day by day. As to the unavoidable blind areas in the networks, directly repeater stations are economical and effective to this problem. The whole volume of directly repeater station is limited because of its working environment; the antenna also needs to be small. Because of their low profile advantage, the microstrip antennas become first-selection of most directly repeater stations. One prominent shortcoming of common microstrip antenna is its narrow bandwidth. A lot of techniques have been proposed to broaden the bandwidth by many researchers; among them the microstrip patch antenna fed by L-probe has increasingly attracted attention. It is based on the common microstrip antenna, easily changing the fed method to achieve the aim of broadening the bandwidth. Now there are many applications using microstrip patch antennas fed by L-probe in modern wireless communication systems. This thesis mainly focuses on the design of microstrip patch antenna for indoor mobile communication directly repeater station. The design aim is: on the base of including 2.4 GHz band of WLAN, covering DCS, PCS, WCDMA and other cell mobile radios, to design the antenna for indoor directly repeater station, which can serve as cellular mobile communication and WLAN access point. Firstly, the basic theory of antenna is introduced, then the working principle and analysis methods of microstrip antenna. Antenna design is based on a microstrip antenna fed by L-probe working in single 2.4GHz WLAN band, analyses and optimizes antenna structure parameters of this kind in detail using the simulation software Ansoft HFSS, which has good reputation in electromagnetic field, and gets the best design parameters finally. Additionally, proposes two improvements of antenna structure and verifies their feasibility in finite difference time domain (FDTD). Chooses one of the designed antennas to fabricate model for experiment, and test it using microwave vector network analyzer, gives some parameters, compares to analysis and simulation results.
