For satellite communication system, the antenna is not only one of the most important equipment of earth station, but also the input and output channels of radio frequency signal in the earth station. The antenna used in satellite communication system needs enough gain in order to meet high quality communication requirement. Most of the earth station antennas in use are reflector type, which size and great weight make it difficult to install and move in some degree.For solving problems about the antenna’s size and great weight, this paper develops a slot coupling microstrip patch antenna in L band, which meets the high gain requirements of satellite communication earth station system, then the main research of this paper are as follows:1. Analyze the antenna array through Taylor synthesis method according to the technical requirements;2. Design a circular polarization microstrip patch antenna by rotating the patches with an certain angle, and utilizing slot coupling, which makes antenna light and smaller size;3. Choose unit Wilkinson power divider according to requirements:a type applied to the column feed without isolation resistance and the other one applied to the row feed with T Wilkinson power divider;4. Reasonably design column feed layout structure, and solve the insufficiency interspace problem of column feed network.5. For row feed network, whose output is linked with the planar array through the coaxial line, and adjust layout of microstrip circuit in order to reduce the entire size of the network.6. Analyze and determine the size of a single antenna in the array environment, reduce the impact of the mutual coupling among antennas.7. Determine the phase of phase scanning-shifter according to the result of simulation, then realize the phased beam scanning. Those all above have been simulated and validated by electromagnetic simulation software. The simulation results of planar array antenna meet the index requirement; Then give a near field cylinder test on the manufactured linear array antenna, the measured results agree with the simulation data, conclusively solve the size and great weight problems of the earth station to a certain extent.
