The data compact technology is applied during calculating the FDTD near field, to improve the efficiency and save the computer memory. The frequency domain and the radiation character of the U slot rectangle patch antenna and these characters of the antenna array with three rectangle patches arranged in a ring considering the impact of coupling between elements are calculated by FDTD. Then a new antenna array is designed and analyzed, whose elements are U slot rectangle patches and arranged in a ring.This paper is divided into three parts.Two efficient methods of computing antenna patterns are shown, which improve computing efficiency greatly and save memory. The first one uses the FDTD combining a recursion algorithm of 2D-DCT. It has been validated by numerical results of the corner reflector antenna agreeing with the experimental measuring results. Another approach combines FDTD with wavelet. And the far field patterns are predicted by the near-to-far field transform. A metallic flat slab with a slot is employed to validate the proposed scheme.The U slot rectangle patch antenna is calculated using FDTD. It shows that the plots of voltage and current at the incident port with a resistance in time domain, and the incident and reflected voltage waves in time domain and their Fourier transformation waves. The frequency band and resonant frequency points can be received from those plots. A reconstructed near field calculated by 2D-DCT shows little distortion. The far fields received from reconstructed near fields agree with the experimental measuring results.Finally, the numerical results of a rectangle patch antenna array with three elements arranged in a ring considering the impact of coupling agree with the measurement ones. It validates the dealing of coupling in FDTD. Then a new antenna array is designed and analyzed, which is three U slot rectangle patches arranged in a ring. Its frequency and radiation characters are calculated, and compared with the previous antenna array, given the difference between them and the reason.
