Reverse Engineering is one of the methods for digital product development. It greatly shortens the exploitation period, improves the precision and is an important way to create and develop a new product by digesting and absorbing advanced technologies. Presently, there are two aspects in the research of Reverse Engineering: one is the research on the pivotal technology of RE, which includes data acquiring, data dealing and model reconstruction. Data acquiring is the basis of RE; data dealing, which is the crucial link of RE, will affect the result of model reconstruction, model reconstruction is the ending; The other way is system integration, which includes the integration of all links of RE and the exploitation of common software. On account of that, this paper focused on data and model reconstruction, and developed software system of Oper3D, made the two unifying.Firstly, the paper describes data dealing of Reverse Engineering; the paper states the object of the research is point cloud of scan line data, and the development of software system.Secondly, the paper researches on the key technology of software system and realizes the functions of software system. The functions include the point data read, graphics displayed, graphics rotated, graphics zoomed; meanwhile the paper realizes the functions of removing noise, reducing data and extracting streamline of point cloud ,the paper also makes data-processing and puts forward methods of Reverse Engineering, which using the combining method of observation and deviation-filtering to remove noise points , using the combining method of minimum distance and man-machine to reduced data points, using the combining method of latitude-longitude scanning to extract streamline. On the basis of traditional methods, the paper gives the ideas and solutions of 3D model reconstruction. By the way of interpolation, the paper realizes B-spline reconstruction. The example of ball-cutter verifies the software system and the results are satisfying At the end of the paper, it gives further study in Reverse Engineering after concluding contents of the paper.
