Network Manufacturing is produced in the network economy and has been widely used as a model of modern manufacturing. It uses network technology, breakthrough the geographical space, achieve synergies and promote the sharing of resources and integration between enterprises. It will shorten the development time and reduce the cost, thus will promote the rapid development of enterprises. In the network manufacturing, network manufacturing resource retrieval is the starting point of enterprise collaboration chain, it is also the premise and the foundation of implementation of network-based manufacturing.The article mainly aims at the manufacture resources retrieval result the relevance as well as the retrieval efficiency, proposes based on XML the technical network manufacture resources retrieval system. We used the XML Schema to build manufacturing resource modeling, in order to shield the manufacture resource isomerism, enabled the resources model to realize in the network manufacture. According to this modeling approach, we suggested a XML storing method in relational database. This method is based on XML Schema, which transforms XML Schema into relational schema in order to achieve XML storing in relational database. We encoded the element node of XML Schema by using Dietz method to keep the content, structure and semantic integrity during the process of the transforming.Based on this method, we discussed about how to implement query transformation from XML query to SQL query in order to perform rapid and effective resource retrieval in the relational database. First according to the XPath expressions, produced the XPath Query Graph. Based on the Dietz coding of XML Schema, XPath query could achieve accelerating locating. We generate SQL from Dietz code that got in the locating step, and achieve the query transformation.Finaly, develop a XML-based network manufacturing resource retrieval prototype system. The key technologies of retrieval system were explained and given an application on machine tools to test the system.
