With the development of society, the shortage of water resources is getting more serious than ever, water saving and recycling are the inevitable ways for ease the shortage of water resources. Reusable water, generated from the sewage treatment of the low quality, can be used for industrial cooling cycle, green sprinkler irrigation, roads washes, landscape water, car washes, rivers and lakes, and so on. It can save a lot of fresh water, and it has great significance of the sustainable use of water resources. In the reusable water network system, there are a lot of unattended equipments, not suitable for wired communication networks. If the fiber or radio approaches to wireless communications, the equipment investment is a huge cost, and not convenient to install and move. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new remote monitoring system, in order to achieve the automatic monitoring of the network.GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), as the 2.5 generation technology transition from 2 generation to 3 generation, is widely applied in industrial automation field. This paper presents a GPRS-based remote network monitoring system. The system uses GPRS network as the transmission platform of long distance signal, and conjuncts with GIS (Geographic Information System) technology to achieve the remote monitoring. The system solves the problem of wireless communication in monitoring, and has better performance of reliability and real-time. In this paper, the GPRS technology is firstly introduced, and then there is a detailed description of system design and function. Based on this, the each parts of the system structure are deeply analyzed and researched, in order to provide the programme of entire system design and implementation. The system now has put into operation. It has a lot of functions, as well as the convenient operation, installation and maintenance, and the future development and expansion is easy.
