Studies Of China Mainland News Reports In Southeast Asian Chinese Newspaper

In order to research how Chinese newspapers in Southeast Asia report the news of China's Mainland for Chinese in Southeast Asia and how the politics, economy and culture influence these reports, Content Analytical Method is mainly employed in sample quantitative analysis about the reports concerning China's mainland in Xingluo Daily, Nanyang Business, Lianke Morning Paper from 1991 to 2006.According to the survey, the Southeast Asia Chinese newspaper has made profound and comprehensive reports on china in recent years. Those reports cover all the fields of life in China mainland, from national politics to household chores, especially on politics, economy and diplomatism, of which are the key points of these 3 newspapers. Averagely, 10 pieces of the news are reported daily on each newspaper. From 1991 to 2006, the frequency of being reported were neither going up speedily nor drawing down rapidly, but fluctuating slowly up and down. These 3 newspapers focus on news and profound reports formally and supplement some comments regarding the essentiality of incidents. As a whole, they show an impersonal orientation on report. Positive praise, few disclosures and criticise or dissimilar politics of ideology were occasionally found in words. The differences in politics, economy and culture among Southeast countries have influence upon the style of report about the news of China's mainland in local Chinese newspaper. With different background, the three newspapers manifest different style of report. Lianhe Morning Paper has a background of government support; the localization strategy and the local Chinese party's control behind the curtain characterize Nanyang Business, while Xingluo Daily runs in a pure commercial way. Every paper tries its best to offer an access with its own style to local society and Chinese to view China mainland.
