The Chinese stereotypes are negative in the western world, the image of the nation are usuallyconstructed by the media information,so it will make sense to research the mainstream media inwestern world to study how they construct the media image of China. The news industry in Britainhas a long history and a great impact all around the world. Even in the time of Internet the Britishnewspaper still have vitality and influence over nations.The UK-China relationship had a great change from 2012 to 2016, so it would make sense todo the research of the British mainstream newspaper to investigate the China media stereotypes inthese years. In Consideration of the circulation and the political stance, the research picked TheTimes,The Independence,Daily Mail and The Guardian as the sample newspaper,then focus on thecharacters report because of the news hot spot between 2012 to 2016.The former research showed that the negative report was the main part of the Chinese relatednews in Britain. The research try to review the way which the British newspapers to constructChinese media stereotypes by use the perspective of themes and techniques in the reports. After thequantitative study, it is the audience research based on the interview with the audiences of thenewspapers, they told something about how the media work change their image of China.The conclusion showed that there was more news report about China in these 4 years thenbefore and China got new images such as powerful and rich. The most interest point is that becauseof the political and economic effects,British newspapers had contradictory attitude about Chineseleaders such as Xi Jinping. Although the negative report still exist and had great impact but theChinese stereotypes have been promoted these years.
