With the development of the national economic, the pressure on urban traffic is increasing. Building the urban tunnel in the urban traffic hub becomes one important means to ease the traffic pressure. Most of the new city tunnel has been equipped with an advanced traffic monitoring system, which can collect the massive traffic data. The traditional methods of dealing with these data are time-consuming and laborious, and difficult to find the traffic laws and characteristics hidden in them.At present, the data warehouse theory and the data mining technology has already developed very well, and become one of the forefront of the active fields in the information system and the computer science research. The data mining technology has been widely used in banking, retail and wholesale, manufacturing, insurance, public utilities, government, education, telecommunications, software development, transport and other enterprises and research in the national defense.In this paper, one kind design proposal of intelligent traffic detection system based on data warehouse and data mining was proposed, the view of building the data warehouse to each kind of traffic data was put forward, and the OLAP and the data mining based on the data warehouse was carried.In this paper, the key technologies on the intelligent traffic detection system have been studied and designed in detail. The main contents are as follows:(1) Introduce the concept and structure of the data warehouse, and describe the feature of the multidimensional data model and the On-Line Analytical Processing in detail. Elaborate the concept and the implementation process of the data mining technology, the focus on the basic principle of the clustering method of the data mining.(2) Describe the overall function and the system architecture of the intelligent traffic detection system. Introduce the hardware equipment and the software platform and tools of the system. Give the realization of the process and the main interface. Construction of the data warehouse for the next step laid the foundation.(3) According to the design, establish the data warehouse of the intelligent traffic detection system. Follow by a conceptual design, logical model design, design the dimensional form and the fact table, the physical design model, finally generate the data warehouse.(4) Carry on the On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) and the clustering method of the data mining on the base of the data warehouse. Separately carry on the analysis and process to the multi-dimensional data set from the single dimension and the multi-dimension angle in OLAP. Finally, carry on data mining process to the data warehouse, and carry on the analysis to the result.In this paper, the data mining technology is applied to the specific project. The OLAP provides the decision support for the tunnel managers. By the data mining, some traffic characteristics of the tunnel are found out, which provide the effective basis for the reasonable use of the city tunnel and the effective guidance and control to the urban transport.
