Nowadays, with the development of digital circirt, there are more and more kinds of high technology divice appeared in our daliy life. The IEEE 1394 multimedia connection enables simple, low-cost, high-bandwidth isochroous (real-time) data interfacing between computers, peripherals, and consumer electronics products such as camcorders, VCRs, printers, PCs, TVs, and digital cameras. With IEEE 1394-compatible products and systems, users can transfer video or still images from a camera or camcorder to a printer, PC, or television, with no image degradation. We could say that FireWire is one of the fastest peripheral standards ever developed, which makes it great for use with multimedia peripherals.As one of the cooperative projects with the ASIC Design Center of Tianjin University, one of our destinations is to provide a peripheral circuit for their CMOS image sensor, which can realize the high performance data transportation between image sensor and computer. The other is to provide a testing board to the IEEE 1394 link core design.Beginning with the IEEE1394-1995 serial bus protocol, we discuss the features and structure at first. And then we make a focus on the hardware design of the two different purposes in our project with the 1394 link-layer and physical-layer controller. Besides, we also discribe the theory and process of the hardware debugging. These researches on 1394 serial bus interface circuit possess certain referential value for comprehending IEEE-1394.
