Logistics economy starts to have a vigorous development along with the rapid evolution of global economic integration. Basically container is the major carrier of logistics and more and more containers will be demanded with the development of global logistics. The railway transport of container is an important mode of inland transport of container and it has a great development in recent years. It is clear that containers are identified by their unique container numbers in the whole process of logistics. But comparably speaking the traditional method of identifying containers does not have a high veracity and the data collected by manual work will not only easily have mistakes but also cost much time. Consequently, how to track and manage containers scientifically and efficiently is becoming extremely urgent and significant under the tough competition.According to this problem, it is necessary to introduce the well developed technology—Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) into container transportation. Compared with the traditional automatic identification technologies, RFID has obvious advantages, such as speedy transmission; high efficiency, whole-day working, pollution avoidance, and long-distance transmission. Therefore, the application of RFID in container could improve the quality and efficiency of management.This thesis started from the analysis of the actuality of the container transportation management and explained the problems appeared in the process of transportation. Based on the in-depth study of RFID and the situation of railway transportation management, we analyzed the feasibility of using RFID in the railway container transportation and indicated the managing and transporting scheme adapted to railway system based on the RFID technology.This thesis focused on the discussion of the problems and relevant technologies in the process of achieving informational management with RFID in railway container yard. We had researched mainly on the choice of readers and tags, location of container in yard, management of access, data transmission, system security, and integration with TMIS and indicated the relevant solution and operational advice. Based on these, we finished the design and achievement of the management information system according to the relevant requirements and deep analysis of the system and applied experiment environment to have a successful test on the system. Finally, the work of this paper was summarized and some improved measures and future directions were pointed out.
