Nowadays the Internet technology and the business are developing rapidly, and the mergence between computers and telecommunication nets is carried out gradually. Then the complexity, variety and diversity become outstanding problems of the network day by day. So the single management system structure of a network is too ineffective to control network synthetically. The study on the measurement of network performance has become more and more important.IP packet delay variation is an important performance parameter in a network. This paper analyses and measures the delay and the delay variation (IPDV) in an IP network with clock synchronization and without it. Also it discusses the influence of clock synchronization on IPDV measurements and the IPDV values that use three different delay values as references are obtained. Through an in-depth analysis, this paper puts forward that using the delay values of packets in front and back as reference to measure IPDV is more accurate. Also this paper expands the function of the measurement in a network based on DNMAI, and a module about IPDV measurement is appended to DNMAI so that the measurement of IPDV comes true.More over, a SNMP cooperation engine based on CORBA technique is designed, to which the CORBA/SNMP gateway is appended as a middle component. By adopting the CORBA technique, the defects of SNMP is avoided so that manifold protocols of network management can do their work in the management system of a network. Finally combined with DNMAI, the cooperation engine can manage the network effectively.
