Cotton is an important resource relating to the national economy and the people's livelihood. With the rapid development of modern information technology, new requirements for cotton processing and its quality information management are put forward. Compared with foreign countries' inspections of cotton's quality, our country's old inspection can't keep up with the development of cotton market. State Development Planning Commission accepted the reform of cotton distribution system centering on inspecting every cotton package in 2003. So research on Cotton Information Collection and Management System based on embedded system is significant.Combining the reform of cotton distribution system this paper analyses the current situation of cotton-processing enterprises in our country and uses the embedded technical solution in Cotton Information Collection and Management System. The system compensates for Cotton Management Information System with IC cards in using, integrates the functions of collection, communication, processing, output, transferring and coding, meets the requirement of inspecting every cotton package and achieves the information management of cotton processing.The paper designed hardware & software solution, focused on the development of hardware & software in embedded systems. Use limit scope of branch algorithm to identify the electronic weighing equipment automatically. Dispatch multiple serial ports by multi-thread technique. Simulate the cotton processing in Matlab and apply limiting filter with estimation during cotton information collection. Manage the cotton information efficiently by CE Data Base. Use hardware & software anti-interference technique to defend the disturbance in field experiments.Cotton information collection and management system based on embedded system tested in some cotton-processing enterprises and has been on market in August 2007. The system has been tested and run about one year. This proved its stable functions and friendly man-machine interface satisfying the requirements of cotton market.
