As an important part of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, CAD is the most high-class and new application technique in the field of engineering project and mechanical engineering and so on. With the development of industry, more and more standard parts are used in the product design, and many kinds of standard parts libraries are advanced and built in order to avoid repeated labor. A integrated standard parts library includes thousands of parts which are similar in structure and different in dimension. Besides, the kinds of standard parts include not only international standard and country standard, but also field standard and the standard of the company. It causes that the process of building standard parts library is considerable troublesome, and the library could not be used in other CAD system. How to build parametric parts library simply always is the hot spot in CAD field.Through analyzing the state of current building library , researching the correlative technologies including the parameterization and visualization technology ,the technology of creating file automatically ,the format of CAD file and compiling technology, aiming at the shortage of traditional tools for building standard parts library, combining the current technology of building library in TianyuCAD that was developed by National CAD Support Software Engineering Research Center(Wuhan) , we present and develop a new building tool. Beginning with the building dimension and topological constraint ,by a few easy semi-automatic mutual operations ,our building library system translates an engineering drawing into a serial of points ,and the relation between points will describes the dimension and topological constraint ,then a program which represents a parametric standard part and is described in a special language by the tool can be formed from the pints. Making use of the tool, the visualization and briefness of building library process will be realized. In the tool, a lexer and a parser are developed for the special language. The program which represents a parametric standard part is parsed by the lexer and parser and is translated into a standard part drawing. According to setting of the building tool's interfaces and the platform-independent special language, we developed a transferring component by which the parts library that is built by this system can be shared by different CAD systems.
