The part library of perfect, currency and standard is one of the basic support techniques that make the manufacturing industry powerful. Business enterprise which adopts this part library technique can raise the exchange efficiency of parts data, easy to manage the each stage that consists of the whole life cycleses of production, carry out sharing of the parts information data which lies in the business enterprise inside and outside. The main object of PLIB standard (ISO 13584) is to provide a neutral format for the existing parts in order to realize the exchange and sharing of heterogeneous systems. The main data description language of PLIB is EXPRESS. It usually uses the STEP (ISO 10303) Part21 text file as a interface of data exchange. It is comprehended by computer easily, and each information can satisfy stipulation compulsory, can insure the credibility of the information exchange. But because the disadvantage of the EXPRESS language description mechanism that can't use usage in Web conveniently, use the ISO 10303 part 21 neutral documents which instantiated by EXPRESS already materialize the structure relation of describing the part information by EXPRESS no longer. It is short of agility and expansibility adequately. What is more, it can't be supported nicely by the Web environment. But XML which adopts the layer structure method to describe the data information has lots of likeness with EXPRESS. So using the XML files as STEP of physical realization is very fit.According with STEP standards and PLIB standards, this paper improves the information model of part family, puts forward the XML data model based on PLIB, constructs the network part library system in accord with the international standards. These can carry out the application of part library among the multi-platforms in deed. This paper explores several aspects which embrace the relationship between STEP and PLIB, the construction of part family, the information describing mechanism of part library, the data medol of XML based on PLIB, the implementation of its modeling technology on the UML network part library, the realization of part library prototype system. The paper in emphases researches the construction of part family, the information describing mechanism of part library, the data medol of XML based on PLIB, the modeling technique of the network part library based on UML.In the design process of part library prototype system, with Visual C++6.0 and the SQL Server 2000, the structure of parameter database in accord with PLIB standards is bulit. In the end it completes the parameter information database work of several firmwares such as bolt, nut and screw. The part library prototype system not only provides all information that the part life cycle needs, but also achieves the classification search of the part and the dynamic maintenance of increase independence.
