Inquiry learning, has initially demonstrated great comprehensive effect as a learning way combined with network technology. Abroad, some researchers have done a lot of theoretical and experimental research about inquiry learning and have achieved good results. Recent years, some domestic researchers and teachers in the forefront also had some meaningful study about web-based inquiry learning. However, in general the current theoretical and experimental research of web-based inquiry learning mainly focuses on basic education, there is few about higher education in addition to a small number of distance education. Carrying on the web-based inquiry learning in the college is advantageous in raising college student's information literacy, displaying university student's initiative fully, raising their practice ability, the innovation spirit as well as the cooperation spirit. At present, there are many platforms support inquiry learning, such as Blackboard, Moodle and so on. Undeniably, they play an important role in the creation of inquiry learning environment, but what is the most important is how to design inquiry learning activities to make better use of rich resources provided by the platform. In this study, we select Moodle as a platform for inquiry learning activity. First, we outline theory related to inquiry learning. Next, we analyze the structure and function of Moodle platform. Combined with web-based inquiry learning theory and existed inquiry learning modes we explore inquiry learning mode suitable for the higher education. At last, to practice and verify inquiry learning mode brought forward, we select some knowledge in computer hardware technology course as example and design inquiry learning activities based on Moodle.
