Meter Reading System Based On Image Processing In PDA

Meter reading by manpower is still the main method in present level of meter reading, but it has greater errors. In order to diminish the errors caused by manpower in meter reading and solve the problem that the users who are using meters of mechanic can read meters by Automatic Meter Reading System, a meter reading system based on image processing is designed and developed. In this system, the PDA with the function of taking pictures is adopted. The power quantity is read through the function of image processing in the software of PDA, and then the records of power quantity can be transmitted into the background management system by communication interface for dealing with. The programming language VC#.NET and the database SQL Server CE are selected to develop the software in PDA, and the hard core is image processing technology. At the same time, the background management system based on three-tier computation model is developed, where the SQL Server 2000 is selected as database, and the information of users can be stored, queried, computed, exported and so on. The whole system has friendly interface for consumers, easy to operate, has reliable and stable features and satisfies the needs of users who are using meters of mechanic for meter reading.
