With the development of modern technology and industrial production, traditional testing methods no longer meet the requirements of the actual test because of the increasing high demands of testing technology. Therefore, automatic test system has become an inevitable choice. In 1982, the NI Company put forward the concept of the Virtual Instrument causing a revolution in the field of measurement and control. Virtual Instrument combines computer technology with instrumentation technology perfectly making users operate computers as conveniently as operating instruments. It not only reduces the cost of one traditional instrument, but also improves work efficiency, bring a new look to the modern measurement and control technology. The appearance of Virtual Instrument completely changed the mode, which is manufacturers define instruments but users can not, leading a revolution in measurement and control field.Virtual Instrument is an important part of IT and the production of combining modern measurement technology with computer technology deeply. It has high research value and broad application prospects and is being the forefront of the test and measurement and automation field. Virtual Instrument breaks through the restrictions on traditional acquisition, processing, displaying and storage of data. So, how to apply and develop Virtual Instrument in the engineering technology is worth researching. With Virtual Instrument technology more widely applied, Virtual Instrument software technology has changed the traditional concept of designing instruments.Jilin University Virtual Instrument laboratory developed Virtual Instrument Education Test System facing experimental teaching. It is a Virtual Instrument measurement system containing signal generator, data acquisition, analysis and processing, which is user-defined and can replace of various instruments and achieve new functions which traditional instruments can not, improving the quality and efficiency of experimental teaching. The modularized design, the reconfigurable hardware and the low-cost user-defined bus provide the cost-effective experimental testing platform for the engineering colleges and universities. In order to promote the system better, it is necessary to perfect it.Major work is started on the system VIETS. First, analyze the deficiencies of the original operating interface. Then, improve the virtual storage oscilloscope based on VI-5102 and the virtual signal generator based on VI-5401 by designing DLL on LabVIEW software platform. The improved interface is simple and closer to the traditional instrumentsThen design detection system for the VI-5401 signal generator. Traditional detection method is not suitable for mass production, so it is necessary to build suitable rapid detection system. This detection system can complete system detection programs with advanced PXI technology on LabVIEW software development platform within a short time. This system has greatly improved the intelligence of the signal generator testing program, reduces the rely on the skills and experience of the detection staff, provides quick solutions to faults and finding circuit faults only needs simple operation on the system.Finally, study calibration technology and correction methods of instrumentation, explain the importance of calibration instrumentation and complete the calibration of VI-5102 digital storage oscilloscope. Achieve improving the system VIETS through the above-mentioned work and give the corresponding curve.This paper is divided into five chapters, major elements as follows:Chapter 1 introduces the development of automatic test system, the status and developing trends of the automatic test system, as well as electrical instruments and relevant contents of Virtual Instrument, describes the PXI system and LabVIEW software development platform involved in the paper and explains the significance and major research of this paper finally.Chapter 2 introduces Virtual Instrument Education Test System which is independently researched by Jilin University, analyzes the original deficiencies of signal generator and storage oscilloscope, improves the design of VI-5102 virtual digital storage oscilloscope and VI-5401 virtual signal generator in the VIETS system and gives the design of virtual instrument interface. Explain the design of applying PXI systems finally.Chapter 3 introduces the design principle of VI-5401 signal generator in VIETS system, analyzes the relevant error, gives the design scheme of signal generator detection system, designs a series of detection modules, builds the signal generator detection system, shows the designed operating interface and analyzes of test results.Chapter 4 introduces the calibration technology, the design principle of VI-5102 digital storage oscilloscope and error analysis, studies the instrumentation calibration method. Calibrates VI-5102, gives the calibration curve using PXI hardware platform and analyzes the experimental results providing reference data for calibration curve of the whole system.Chapter 5 summarizes the results and makes prospect of future work.
