With the continuous development of test technology, the requirements formeasuring instruments are more and more strict, various parameters of a productusually need to be tested, traditional instruments appear to be inadequate, so thebus-based and modular instruments arise at the historic moment. Modular instrumentscontrolled by bus combine a variety of test functions together,in this way not onlyreduces the size, and simplifies the complexity of the test.Through software-defined modular instruments have become the most importantdevelopment trend of measurement industry, users can flexibly configure the testsystem to meet changing test requirements. Software as the core of modularinstruments can help users improve test efficiency and reduce test costs, modularinstruments can meet the need for escalating future expansion by increasing thefunction modules, in addition, modular instruments are defined by the software tomake man-machine interface more friendly.Virtual instrument technology is throughhigh-performance modular hardware combined with highly flexible software in thebus to realize various test objectives. Using the virtual instrument environment isconnected with the actual signal, through the analysis of the data to obtain usefulinformation and share the results. Virtual instrument provides a wide variety of toolscan meet the needs of any project.The electronic measurement system in this paper is developed by Jilin Universityand named for the reconfigurable monitoring system. it through the custom RMS busconnects the varies independent modular instruments to form a multi-functionaltesting tool. Functional modules are made of3U standard sizes as well as plugged andplayed in the chassis of bus-based electronic measurement system. Modularinstruments based on FPGA and MCU mode realize the control of the hardwarecircuit. Meanwhile,it transmits information and control boards through the backplanebus, the control board communicates with the computer through the USB bus.Software adopts the graphical programming language LabVIEW with high flexibilityand efficiency to control the modular instruments. Meanwhile, it can realize the data analysis, processing and display. The whole system combines computer technology,virtual instrument technology, electronic measurement technology, it has a signalgenerator, signal in time domain and frequency domain measurement, basic electricparameter measurement, measurement of linear discrete components, logical analysisof digital signals and other functions, the system can be used as a teaching experimentinstrument in colleges and universities.After the completion of the design of series modular instruments, this paperthrough the method of experiment to test each module, and the experimental resultsare presented to prove the feasibility of the design.
