At present, the maritime communication network is quite complex in our country. VHF communication is one of the principal voice communication and data transmission means. With the booming of maritime communication, the existing VHF network architecture has not been able to meet the increasing needs of current maritime communication.Ad Hoc network is an independent, none-centred, self organized and maritime communication incorporated network. Under the normal traffic control and emergency issues, a quickly spread, reliable maritime communication network could be established. In this article, the first portion presents the Ad Hoc network conception, main advanced research area, maritime communication research actuality in our country and the purposes and tasks of this article. In the second portion, it mainly focuses on the Ad Hoc conception, including Ad Hoc network development history, basic contents, characteristic and current research hot for Ad Hoc network. In the third portion of this article, it mainly introduces Ad Hoc network routing protocols, its classifications and capability comparison. Then in the third portion, it mainly focuses on illustration of three on-demand routing protocols, including DSR, AODV and ABR. Demonstration of protocols establishment process and their strong and weak points. In the fourth portion, marine mobile Ad Hoc network IP address allocation technology is introduced, including the basic requirements of maritime communication environment for IP address allocation, evaluation criteria for IP address allocation calculation process and a few calculation methods, prophet allocation method is emphasized. At the last portion of this article, the network simulation software (OPNET) is introduced. Its main characteristic, key technology, emulation process and design method are particularized. The capability of some routing and IP address allocation protocols are compared under emulation flat. On the DMU-V.Dragon Simulation System flat, data dispatch and forward between ships are realized. Multihop data dispatch is realized through changing the program, position and distance of ships. The data communication function on a maritime Ad Hoc network is primarily completed. Capability of the three on-demand routing protocols (DSR, AODV and ABR) under maritime Ad Hoc network are tested under the environment of the numbers and speed of ships are changing. Emulation also made to test the capability for prophet allocation method and conflict detection method under different ships consistency environment, also reach the same conclusion.
