VANET achieves information communications between vehicles, roads andinformation network, improves the efficiency of transportation, enhances the traffic safety. Asvehicle nodes move fast, the network topology changes frequently, but locally there is someregularity. Thus the address allocation and routing protocol of the VANET is different fromboth mobile IP and Ad hoc network. In this paper, the address allocation and routingmechanism suitable for car networking are constructed based on China’s road scene. In terms of VANET address allocation, considering the evolution of the IP protocol andthe convenient communication between vehicles and the external network facilities, the IPv6addressing method is applied: geographic information such as the national highway code, thelocation provinces are integrated into the vehicle IPv6address, the clustering idea of Ad Hocnetwork is referenced, and a domain address allocation scheme is proposed based onTREBOL area.In the network routing protocols, aiming at the limitations of TREBOL protocol andCBF protocol, this paper puts forward the TREBOL routing protocol based on competitionmechanism, the CBF-TREBOL protocol. The key point of this protocol is: whenever thevehicle nodes communicate with the external, the three times competition mechanism isintroduced in the process of selecting the next node. In this way the return time, the vehiclemoving direction and the communication security credibility are comprehensively considered. At the same time, the broadcast changing into unicast mechanism is introduced in order tofurther reduce the packet delay and routing overhead. The simulation and performance analysis on above schemes have been conducted at theend of this paper. The simulation results show that the proposed VANET address allocation isable to avoid duplicate address detection in the whole VANET, reduce the network powerconsumption, and keep addressing stability to the best, improve the communication efficiency. It has proved that the competition mechanism based routing protocol CBF–TREBOL proposed in this paper is superior to the TREBOL protocol in aspects such as packet deliveryratio and routing hops.
