In recent years, wirelss mesh technology has scored big points rapidly and is widely used in commercial sectors, being key part of technology in next generation wireless network. Despite of above mentioned merits, problems such as capacity and coverage enhancement, security, performance, power consumption, bandwidth fairness and multiple host choice, etc still exist which constrict its further development. Routing technologies being adopted is transplanted from Ad Hoc network due to lack of standard, therefore they don't fit wirelss mesh network well. After the analysis of existing wireless mesh routing protocols, this thesis implements the OPNET routing module extension through modifying OPNET's wireless node model, and compares their performance. We focus on how to implement a new routing protocol in OPNET.Firstly, the OPNET simulation mechanism and the principles of wireless node model are introduced. Secondly, we simulate multi-BSSs scenario by implementing wireless mesh static routing module. Then we study AODV and RM-AODV and implement them through designing new simulation model, and compare their performance. This thesis presents a detailed solution for OPNET wirelss mesh routing module extension, and provides a extension framework for further simulation.
