One of the important research areas in Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is theestablishment and maintenance of the ad hoc network through the use of routing protocols. The Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing algorithm is a routing protocolspecifically designed for ad hoc mobile networks. AODV is capable of both unicast andmulticast routing and it is an on demand algorithm, meaning that it builds routes betweennodes only and only if it is desired by source nodes.Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing or what we called AODV is one of thestandard MANET’s routing protocol, whose performance is evaluated in this work withrespect to routing overhead, throughput and end-to-end delay. This research describes the design and performance of routing protocols for ad hocnetworks that exploit the dynamic characteristics of source routing of packets betweenhosts that has the desire to communicate along with their advantages and disadvantages, the protocols described are DSDV, AODV, DSR, CGSR and ZRP.By using the OPNET simulator on Logical Wireless Network with Standard MAC802.11and Office Wireless Network cases, we acquired the results in regards the effect ofthe data transmit rate between the nodes, the effect of mobile node and the number ofnodes on the network performance (Delay and throughput). Several simulations usingWireless Network Technology were done to investigate the behavior of the networkperformance for logical and office applications with fixed and mobile workstations. Results were analyzed to study the effect of packet size, data rate, mobile nodes and thenumber of nodes for both delay and throughput of the suggested networks models. Thevideo streaming was used to analyze the office network communication performance forthis type of application.
