The Knowledge Representation always is the important topics in Artificial Intelligence research field. No mater what problems we solve by applying Artificial Intelligence technologies, the first problem we faced is how to express miscellaneous knowledge involved. In the Artificial Intelligence field, there are many kinds of methods to express knowledge, but generally they are restricted by their applied field. The knowledge space theory based on knowledge points provides a common methodology of knowledge representations. This theory divides the knowledge into three layers: knowledge element, knowledge point and knowledge. This thought stems from that the matter divides into three layers: atomic, molecular and material. In accordance with the thought of this theory, the knowledge may be vividly represented more normally by knowledge networks compared with semantic networks. From the viewpoint of algebra, the knowledge is a set of fundamental elements and a group of operations or restraints on this set; from the viewpoint of graphics, it is a direction chart structure with marks. This article is the upper layer research of the knowledge space theory based on knowledge point, i.e. researching the knowledge top down. From top down, the knowledge point is the knowledge block divided according to the certain principles and the fundamental element organized knowledge. This article mainly discussed the relations among knowledge points and proposed a knowledge representation frame which is constructed by buildup relations primarily and underlay relations auxiliary. A kind of so-called reverse relations derived from relations among knowledge points is introduced, based on which the formally definition of knowledge components is given. The knowledge component is an integration consisting of knowledge points with their relations and having local integrality, which is the fundamental structure formed knowledge space. The knowledge component's attributes and natures are discussed and the relations among knowledge components are researched. The method how to construct knowledge space based on knowledge components is introduced and the knowledge space'nature and its basis is discussed in the guidance of the set space theory. How to apply the knowledge space theory to assess students'knowledge and how to control students'studies way are researched in ICAI. And what more, this article attempts applying this knowledge space theory to knowledge organization and retrieval in the information science and the library science and a new knowledge retrieval method based on the knowledge indexing is introduced which provides some methods and foundation for the knowledge organization in knowledge retrieval domain.
