As digital library is the direction of future library's development, knowledge network publishing has become more and more important in digital library research. The focus in research and development of current digital libraries is how to build Academic Document Knowledge Element Database Management Platform, which at same time is the key component of knowledge network publishing.Therefore this thesis is going to study on how to organize different types of academic documents, how to process the digital documents, and lasts how to present the processed result and provide service to users. Here is a summary of my main works:1. Design on data structure of knowledge element and data collection. Building a standard on the data structure of academic document knowledge element according to the existing metadata standard and the characteristics of academic documents, and designing on how to convert the paper document into knowledge metadata as well as on a document collection platform which directly collects electronic documents in network based on the built standard.2. Data manufacturing and processing. Classifying the collected metadata and building links at different academic document knowledge elements, which can help increase the retrieval efficiency and improve the quality of service of the platform.3. Document Retrieval and service. Taking into account the characteristics of academic documents and retrieval requirements of researcher, give an idea on how to design basic search, advanced search, expert search and customized retrieval service system such as novelty check in science and technology and active sending by subject, to meet various demands.4. Promotion and application. Introducing the traditional academic document evaluation method on cited relation and measures to be taken for improvement, pointing out the usage log used in document evaluation can better illustrate the academic document application values.This thesis has two contributions:1. Pointing out how to design the metadata structure of academic document knowledge element based on existing metadata standard and academic document characteristics.2. Take advantage of data mining technology, we can mine many new indexes on academic document evaluation in combination with the usage log characteristics of academic documentsThe platform has been put into use in China Knowledge Resource integral Databases of Tsinghua Tongfang Optical Disc Co., Ltd., and this contributes to the science and technology development in document retrieval and culture development of the country. The application of this platform is not only of important academic values, but also saves cost of knowledge transmission, provides a basis for knowledge persistent storage, and is consequently reputed for its good economical values and social values.
