Based On SMI-S Storage Network Management System Design And Implementation

The aim of SMI-S is to provide a standard communication mechanism between storage devices for storage network and management software, so as to make the storage management to be independent from its manufacturer, enhancing the effect of management, lowering the administration cost, facilitating the development of storage network. In this paper a Network Resource Management Software according is designed in accordance with the criterion of SMI-S, realizing the aim of the SAN management.In the information era, the development of Network Storage solved the problem with networked storage resource. Network Storage enables the establishment of sharing/connection between the distributed network storage devices and various storage application queues, enhance the utilization of storage resource by module accessing. However, while the storage network is trying to improve the use of resources, the lack of inter-operability among devices limits their inter-connection. Moreover, this makes their administration more difficult. But recent network management software from various vendors can't be compatible with each other. In the year of 2002, SNIA began to introduce SMI-S, its technical support is DMTF's CIM and WBEM.The aim of SMI-S is to provide a standard communication mechanism between storage devices in storage network and management software, so as to separate the storage management from its manufacturer, enhancing the effect of management, lowering the administration cost, improving the development of storage network. Therefore, this paper designs a Network Resource Management Software according to the criterion of SMI-S, realizes the SAN management.This paper is consisted of two parts:(1)the establishment of CIM model according to SAN, and the realization of functions of information collection, information setting-up, emergency supervising, log management, performance analyzing management, etc.(2) the accomplishment of the auto-registering mechanism through SAN, open the registration service of CIMOM.This paper provided a method of managing object by provider, and a way for the auto search of resource. This provides an excellent guidance for the network management under CIM/WBEM.
