Along with the continuously penetrating of computer network in every corner of our society, computer network has been an important infrastruture for our daily life. A perfect network management system is essential for the steady running of computer network. Meanwhile, the network monitor function is the foundation of network management system. Expanding of Campus Network has brought many problems about efficiency and security, so seeking a way to manage and monitor the network effective becomes the most important thing.Currently, the Web Based Management (WBM) has been a new trend of network management system. It provides a flexible, highly effictive and robust means for network monitoring. This paper implements a web-based traffic monitoring system based on the WBM principle, the system can automatically discover the physical topology of a campus network, and based on the discovered topology the system monitors the whole network and provides means for management, security protection and trouble detection. At First, this paper introduces the Web Based Management and the architecture of WBEM which is the approach of impelemnting WBM. Then the paper pesents the physical topology discovering algorithms improved by author. The topology visualization algorithm based on share-edge of network topology also be designed and implemented. This paper introduced detailedly the protocol directory group of RMON2 which extends monitoring capability to the upper layers. We can get flow ingridents of traffic by access it. At last, the paper describes the design and implementation of the Web-based Campus Network Traffic Monitor System-...
