China took on a new look after China's accession to WTO at the beginning of the new century. Television industry has very close relation with everyone and also be taken as mouthpiece of Government. Therefore Chinese television must be developed more greatly and strongly to be ready for global competition. Along with it will be inevitable opening up of television market. Traditional concept of"Television Station"is generally diminishing, and"Channel Management","Program Management"concepts become a common understanding. High quality market demand favors professional media organization with large scale and market segmentation. Under this circumstance, the policies stimulate growing up of private television organizations. Author of this paper holds the opinion that television industrialization is an irresistible trend, existence and developments of private owned television organizations not only have the realistic possibilities but also have necessity. Therefore, it is of profound significance to review and prospect development of private owned television organizations.This paper consists of 5 parts:1 Part depicts background of private owned television production organization's growing up.Part 2 gives a scientific analysis on current status of private owned television organizations. On the one hand, it analyzes the opportunities they are facing now from their own characteristics of existence as well as openness of policies, also their advantages when competing with state-owned television institutes and foreign investment. On the other hand, Chinese private owned television organizations'external environment (including policies, market restriction) and their own inborn weakness, which will be mortal for its future development.Part 3 addresses the way of survival of private owned television organizations in China. It will overturn overall structure of Chinese television industry in future if it develops well; and also very possible to be acquired by foreign companies if it doesn't have good development, which may pose a thread on Chinese traditional culture. Therefore, this part will put focus on how does private owned television organizations strengthen themselves by taking advantage of strong points and avoiding weaknesses, or adopt new technologies and new media.Part 4 will take two successful private owned television companies as examples, Enlight Media, and Phoenix Satellite Television, to analyze their strategy to be succeeded. And also try to find out commons between these them by using comparative analysis method, to provide reference for other private television companies.Part 5 makes a reasonable judgment on the prospect of private television. Our private television organizations will encounter 2 phases in the next few years. Firstly, they will face a tide of merger and acquisition, a large number of enterprises will be eliminated, and those who survive will have comparatively stable market share, and step into specialized development road. For private television companies, capital, technology and talents, there three-in-one strategy will be a way of continuous development. Author gives the following analysis on future prospect of private television:1,Seek for breakthrough on margin model2,Specialization and Multi-operation Strategies on program production, with syndicate suppliers3,Directly enter Period Management for development, obtain operational rights of some channels4,Cross-media resources integration and cross-industry expanding; capture transmission platform such as DTV, Network TV, and Mobile Phone TV.
