Along with the rapid development of Information Technology, more data comes into being in the enterprise. But not all the data brings corresponding information, so the embarrassing situation that data explosion but starving for knowledge occurs frequently. Facing the ceaseless increase of market competition and according to their own need, enterprises bring forward building decision support system (DSS) on the basis of integrating the present management information systems (MIS) and making full use of available information resources to improve their core competition. How to extract useful knowledge from the large amount of business data in the MIS and assist enterprise management team to make thier decision policy, has become the key problem to us. Therefore, this paper taking the informatization project of some traffic bureau as the application background builds up an enterprise data warehouse about traffic information to provide excellent data for decision support.At first, this paper describes the present application and study of data warehouse technology at home and abroad, introduces the key technology of data warehouse, including the system architecture, data model, ETL process, OLAP and data mining. Then it analyzes the present traffic business system, introduces the project background, and brings up seven title fields and the corresponding sub title, and designs multi-dimensional data models based on constellation schema followed by the design of dimension and measure value. In the physical data model design, the storage architecture, dimension table, fact table and index are introduced. The system uses Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) to design ETL process and to manage metadata and it designs and implements the extraction, transformation and loading module of ETL, and then introduces the metadata dependency management and the import and export of metadata. Finally, the data warehouse has been applied to DSS for OLAP and reports, and this paper also analyzes the application prospects of the data warehouse.The data warehouse for the traffic bureau will help to break into its "information isolated island" and to realize the sharing of information, to unify platform for data analysis environment, and to provide excellent data basis for decisions of high quality.
