In the last twenty years, Internet has now become almost a "commodity" service. The multimedia technology has taken great progress from the Internet success. As a basic technology over different medium, the Ethernet has become an important network technology and has taken great application because of its high facilities. The Real-time multimedia technology over Ethernet has become a hotspot.The design of the multimedia translation system over Ethernet was introduced firstly in the thesis. After that, the protocol of Ethernet is introduced and the implementation of IEEE802.3u MAC(Media Access Control) function was designed based on FPGA in this dissertation. While designing the MAC system, it was very important that how to divide and define each module and how to coordinate and interconnect these modules. Method of Top-down was also applied to design. The design of MAC system was coded of the VHDL language. When constructing the code, it should be attention to hardware resource spending and concurrent executable ability of the VHDL Language to make the design close to the hardware working way. The article also analyzed the encoding principle of the serial CRC and gave a parallel CRC logic calculation method based on scheme deducing. The answer had been proved by EDA simulation and applied to the design. Lastly the verification scheme, testing-data and result of simulation was given.In the end of the thesis, a simple summarize of the study was made.
