Representation And Social Reality Construction: A Representational Study Of The Northwest Region On Main Chinese Newspapers

This paper examines the image of Northwest China's in Chinese mainstream newspapers, using content analysis method, and selecting The People's Daily, The Guangming Daily, The Economic Daily as representative. Though the three mainstream newspapers with special emphasis on aspects of the news reports, there are similarities in the image of the mold. There is a deviation in shaping the image of the northwest region. In imaging the economic aspects of the northwest region, they put more attention to the agricultural aspects of economic reports, creating an image which the development of the agricultural economy as the main image of the northwest region. In the northwest area of arts and culture, the three mainstream newspapers focus on the archaeological history of the Northwest and offer the reader an archaic rather than modern image of a northwestern region; In the image of the northwest region's ecological environment and education, there is a tendency of the model. The paper will discuss these issues and explore the reasons, and present some rationalization of the policy responses on how to solve these problems.
