Grid Computing System is an integrated cooperative computing environment that is composed of geographically distributed heterogeneous resource. Grid Computing breaks through the location of geography and the means of traditional cooperation. We should share various resources more widely and solve more complicated problems. The Grid environment is more complex than the general network computing environments, as resources are geographically distributed, heterogeneous, dynamic, autonomous, and owned by different individuals or organizations.Resource Information Service is a key component for registering and discovery information of resources and services in Grid systems. Classical approaches to implement Grid Resource Information Service (GRIS) are either centralized or hierarchical and would result in problems of scalability and single point of failure as the scale of Grid systems rapidly increases. Nowadays Peer-to-Peer (P2P) techniques and protocols have been used to implement scalable services and applications. The Superpeer model is one of P2P techniques that can be used to implement a distributed service in Grids. To address scalability and robustness of Grid Resource Information Service, we proposed a distributed resource information service model that extends the information service architecture of GT4 based on Superpeer model. In the results of our simulation experiments, it could be observed that this model has high scalability and robustness. The main work of this paper includes the following aspects:(1) We summarize the major Grid Resource Information Service (GRIS), and analyze the characters that an efficient Grid Resource Information Service should have.(2) We analyze the MDS information service in GT4, and introduce the MICE-G Grid system. We also analyze the deficiencies in MDS. (3) We analyze the major distributed resource discovery mechanisms in P2P techniques, especially the Superpeer model.(4) Based on the existing Grid and P2P resource discovery mechanism, we proposed a distributed resource information service model that extends the information service architecture of GT4 based on Superpeer model.(5) We evaluate the performance of this model by the PeerSim simulator. The simulations results show that this model has high scalability and robustness and it also has good performance.
