E-Science is about global collaboration in key areas of science, and the next generation of infrastructure that will enable it. E-Science will take a revolutionary influence on the manner of scientific research. The computing architecture of e-Science is usually based on Grid. We define the Grid system, which aims to scientific research and whose nodes are mainly located in the Universities and Institutes, as e-Science Grid. There are two major types of computing models. The prevalent client-server model is suitable for clients of slim hosts, especially mobile apparatus such as palm computers, but it may cause a performance bottleneck and an entire breakdown due to a single point of failure. Peer to Peer (P2P) model can solve the scalable and fault tolerance problems, but it has some challenges such as security, network bandwidth, and architecture designs. This paper presents an e-Science Grid architecture called as Virtual and Dynamic Hierarchical Architecture (VDHA). VDHA combines the advantages of C/S and P2P, and avoids their disadvantages. We have implemented the scalable Grid system prototype VDHA_Grid based on this architecture. In this prototype, we implemented scalable Grid information service and scalable Grid security service. The thesis contributions are listed as follows:(1) We present VDHA to solve dynamic and scalable problem of e-Science Grid.(2) We propose two protocols for scalable and effective grid service discovery.(3) We propose a scalable Grid security architecture.(4) We propose an ontology-based Grid service description language (OGSDL).(5) We implemented a Grid system prototype -VDHA_Grid(6) We presents the model and implemented the prototype of monitor and control service (MCS)for VDHA_Grid.(7) We presents the models and implemented the prototype of literature sharing service andvirtual scientific discussion service based on VDHA_Grid, and of heterogeneous information sharing and knowledge retrieve service.
