The invention of microprocessor and micro control unit has been regarded as the beginning of digital age and the terminator of the analog IC in 20th century 70's. On the contrary, the analog IC is more and more important, because of the huge demand of IC in consumption and communication domain. For the increasing working frequency and the extending application scope, the requirement of mix signal IC is advancing.Analog-to-digital convertor is one typical kind of mix signal IC. It can translate analog signal into digital signal. In digital age, the importance of ADC is very obvious. With the advancing producing technology and the improving means and methods of design, the working rate and precision is higher and higher. This will offer a wonderful approach for the alternation between analog world and digital world.A method of flash pipeline analog-to-digital convertor design is put and a 16 bits analog-to-digital convertor is realized based on the research of digital CMOS circuit, analog CMOS circuit, amplifier circuit and analog-to-digital convertor. The circuit for voltage division, difference amplifier and encoding circuit are needed as the component of the convertor.The workbench is ADS (Advanced Design System) by Agilent. By means of from bottom to top, a 16 bits flash pipeline analog-to-digital convertor is designed. The convertor has been simulated. The simulation result verifies the validity of the method, and proves the function of the design. The performance and parameter of the convertor are close to the new product in the international market. The practical application of the design isn't ignorable.
