Research On Network Management System And Its Fault Management Module In Active Network

With the development of the network technologies, people has much more stronger demand on network .More and more kinds of information are required to transmit, and higher quality of services are needed to provide. But the traditional network management, which is based on SNMP protocol and Polling mechanism, is going to show its limitations, such as low timeliness efficiency and communicating bottleneck, when network scale is becoming bigger.A new network model Active Network is one of the approaches to deal with the problems. As a new programmable network architecture, the Active Network supports new network protocols and services very well when they are in the process of development, deployment, and the verification; it also presents new approaches for new services, such as network management, QoS control and reliable multicast.According to reading and analyzing mass of inland and overseas relative materials, this paper studied the key technologies, including the characters and mechanism of active network, the architecture and the active node. It also did further research on the architecture of Active Network Management System, the Capsule (a special active packet) technologies, and suchlike. Then a distributed and intelligent model framework of Active Network Management System is brought forward. The components in the model and the transmit mode of Capsule with its applied case are carefully designed. Aside, the system performance of this model is analyzed by comparing with traditional network management model. Finally, much detailed researches are put on the Fault Management module. The objective and concrete functions are presented, and the rule-based and reasoning expert system is introduced to support the fault diagnosis, then a few Capsules are designed to find and tackle the fault phenomenon. The process shows a little intelligent and distributed. At the last part of this paper, the prototype system and its Fault Management module are partly realized by using the ANTS environment.
