The growing size, increasing complexity and generalized isomerization of computer network have brought difficulty in network management. The application of active network in the network management has become one of hot topics in research on the network management.Since traditional SNMP nodes without active capacity in the current network can not be completely replaced, the thesis combines the idea of active network and the technology of SNMP management, proposes a hybrid network management model, The model permits the coexistence of active nodes and non-active nodes, and no third software or active processing platform is needed. Besides, the thesis describes the main components of the model, which comprise workstations, active nodes and packaging bodies of the network management. The advantages and disadvantages of the model and other two models are quantitatively analyzed and compared. In the fault diagnostic module of the active network, the thesis analyzes and summarized the current fault diagnostic technology, combines the self-testing and mutual testing methods, and applies the three-value diagnostic model to the fault diagnostic management of the active network. And it presents an AN fault diagnostic model based on the three-value diagnostic model and describes the algorithm. The model enhances the reliability of the system and the accuracy of the diagnosis. As for the structural performance of the active nodes, the thesis examines the packet classification algorithm, and the matching principles of priority levels are applied in the regular and irregular domains. The linear search algorithm has been improved. The improved algorithm accelerates the matching between the information packages and rules, shortens the packet classification time, and compares the time complexity.
