Prediction module is researched and analyzed in arithmetic, on the base of particular research of new international video encoding standard H. 264/AVC and the characteristic of HDTV's high demand on decoding time. Two improved arithmetic of intra prediction and movement estimation are put forward and tested in lab. At last we accomplish hardware design of prediction module of video decoder.Firstly, we research and analyze arithmetic of intra prediction and movement estimation of prediction module, then put forward improved arithmetic. For intra prediction, we put forward rapid arithmetic of "Base on relativity of prediction mode", on the base of "Based on most possible prediction mode" .This improved arithmetic increases prediction definition by means of adding prediction blocks, thus overcomes disadvantage of easy distortion in the case of not high relativity between blocks. For movement estimation, we put forward rapid arithmetic of "Base on relativity of picture movement" , on the base of "Based on DS arithmetic" .This improved arithmetic increases prediction pertinence by means of preferring to consider relativity of picture movement, thus overcomes disadvantage of needing several step calculateion in the case of high relativity between blocks and of easily getting into best local point.Secondly, these two improved arithmetic are tested . The result of test indicates that video quality of two improved arithmetic is better than old arithmetic and computation complexity is decreased largely. Therefor, it will be better to meet the demand on real time of video decoding.Finally, system framework and functional module interface of video decoder are analyzed, especially the SDRAM control module which is very related to prediction module. Then we accomplish hardware design and simulation for prediction module of video decoder by ASIC design way.
