The electronics industry has entered the era of multimillion-gate chips, now SoC designers use reuse methodology, which is based on reusing and design of intellectual property (IP) to increase efficiency of complex IC design. With the development of technology of programable logic device, a single chip FPGA is available to contain several millions transistors so implement SoC(System on Chip) on FPGA which is called SOPC (System on Programable Chip) becomes a industry trend. SOPC is a flexible and efficient SoC solution. Firstly it is a SoC, a single chip contain the main system functions. Secondly, SOPC is a programmable system which has the characteristics such as low cost, high performance, flexibility in designing, configurable function modules, soft/hardware reconfigurable and so on.Use the revolutionary SOPC technology and guided by Reuse Methodology and combine soft/hard-ware coordination designing idea, this thesis attempts to changes the focus of system design from the board-level to the chip-level. This thesis successfully integrated NIOSII CPU, image capture and process IP core, user interface module and communication interface to a single FPGA chip and realize a palm print recognition embedded system platform. Through update FPGA logic and system software, this platform can support two-dimension code, RFID card and Security control functions, which prove the advantages of SoPC technology -- soft/hardware reconfigurable and platform reuse-able.
