The evolutionary computing is a branch of artificial intelligence based on a biological evolution theory. It simulates the nature organic evolution process, uses some kind of coding technology to present possible solutions of a problem, and solve the problem via earring on heredity operations. It archived great success, because it has features like self-organization, auto-adapt, self-learning and easy to description a problem, is easy to operate especially at solveing problems with limits, and is fit for parallel computation. It solved many machine learning and complex optimized problems, and becomes a hot spot of computer science. Evolvable hardware is a branch which of the evolutionary computing. Is is a brand-new domain which the algorithm and the computer hardware unifies, the goal of evolvable hardware is make the hardware auto-adapted, self-repairable, self-study. This concept is proposed in 1992 by Hugo de Garis and the Swiss union engineering institute. When 1992, H. de Garis discussed the hardware with an electronic engineer, learns that the programmable integrated circuit, PLD was describe by a string of bits, just like the chromosome of evolved algorithm, so inspired the thought of use a genatic algorithm to design hardware. More than ten years, evolvable hardware developed with the development of evolved computation and the programmable circuit, and became a important branch of evolutionary computing domain. NASA supported the evolvable hardware extremely, and specially established the evolved hardware group to carry on evolvable hardware research, and held an international evolvable hardware congress every year to impelled evolvable hardware research. Japan also regards evolvable hardware very much, Professor Higuchi's research was supported by the Japanese government, has yielded many amazing results. The European evolved hardware research was also developed very fast recent years, which also has draws the European space bureau's interest, this year the auto-adapted hardware system international conference (AHS 2006) will be hold at Turkey. Moreover, in countries like Mexico also developed evolvable hardware the research. These years, evolved antenna, machine auto-adapt, auto study, fault-tolerant and so on research have yielded many results. These achievements, initially unfolded the application prospect of evolvable hardware. But, simultaneously we also should see, these research has rarely progress on algorithm aspect which the hardware uses. Main achievements of evolvable hardware was limit to apply the evolvable hardware model to reconfigurable hardwares.
