With the development of mobile network, the experimental network of the 3th generation mobile system has been built. The situation that the 2th coexists with 3th generation mobile network will appear. But the most active factor in the communication industry still is GSM. How to ensure the running of GSM in this environment and the transition from 2th to 3th generation mobile network is the primary problem and challenge. The construction and running of the mobile network is a process of continuous systematic optimization. The network optimization runs through the entire process of network development and is one of the most primary factors of the running of mobile network. In this process a support system is needed to manage and optimize the data.In mis paper a GSM wireless optimization support system based GIS accord with the requirements of GSM wireless network is provided. The system can resolve the problem exists in GSM and domestic network optimization system. With the use of the search and analysis function of spatial data in network optimization, GIS has become the base and premise in the visualization of network covering and forecast, also become the fundamental guarantee to rapidly position the failure. It adopts MapX and Oracle9i Spatial technology to implement GIS functions. The system is divided into five modules; they are Drive Test Data module, Network Management module, STS Data Analysis module, Report Forms module and system management module. It can provide Computer-aided decision support for each work stage in the GSM optimization. It can implement "Visualization-wide network management, the entire network of thematic maps analysis, intelligent diagnostic and scientific decision-making. So, it can improve the efficiency and veracity of network optimization.
