In a computer, bus is a transmission path on which signals are dropped off or picked up at every device attached to the line. PCI Local Bus is a very mature bus, used widely in the military and civilian fields. Wishbone is a high performance on chip bus with its simple structure, flexible and low cost. More and more IP core designed based on Wishbone OCB now.In-depth studied the PCI Local Bus and Wishbone OCB, according to the architecture of LX-1164 microprocessor, the author designed a PCI bus controller and bridge based on Wishbone OCB with a top-down IC design. The controller done communication between PCI and Wishbone, and synchronized the clock.This paper describes the signal definition and bus operation of the PCI Local Bus and Wishbone OCB, it also presents the structure and operation mechanism of the controller which act as a bridge in two buses. It will provide a reference to other bus controller design.
