Because of its powerful function and good performance, PCI bus has made big progress since proposed. In industry computer, CompactPCI was proposed for the desire of firmness, solidity and module. With Euro-card criterion form, CompactPCI is compatible with PCI bus in electric specification and software,and is commonly used in industry, telecommunication and military. To facilitate the extend of industry bus such as CompactPCI, PMC(PCI Mezzanine Cards) is developed.Under the desire in electrical specification, one bus can only drive a few loads. When the system is large or the equipment need to be extend, it may not reach the require. This can be solved by extending another bus with PCI-PCI bridge. This paper is mainly about the design of PCI add-in card using Intel's PCI-PCI chip 21154. Two add-in card are designed, one interfacing PCI has two PCI slots in extending bus, the other one interfacing CompactPCI has two PMC slots.First,PCI bus and PCI-PCI bridge theory are proposed ,then the used Intel chip is introduced. After that, the points in designing of add-in card's theory schematics and PCB are depicted and signal integrity emulation is made with essential signals from CompactPCI add-in card. The emulation shows that there is no signal integrity problem in PCB. Because no drive software is needed in using chip 21154, this paper don't refer to the drive design .After configuring the register in initialization rightly, the work about design of add-in card are all done.
