In order to meet the requirement of high speed networking interface in modern communication system, router needs more efficiency networking interface module and higher speed access. It is an effective method to adopt E3/T3 interface in WAN (Wide Area Network).This paper introduces the tendency and current situation of E3/T3 network module at home and abroad, and shows the process of development of router's architecture. By analyzing the existing hardware architecture of serial card, we get the conclusion that it is feasible to develop the E3/T3 interface on the existing hardware platform. Then, we discuss the MUX (multiplexer) layer in embedded RTOS (Real Time Operation System) VxWorks and give the framework of driver, research and develop the E3/T3 serial card, and explain the difficult points in technique such as SRQ (Service Request) mechanism and time slot mapping in detail. Finally, we explain the debug process, and analyze, locate and solve the problems in course of debugging.Through the development and debugging serial card, we solve the problem of supporting E3/T3 interface on the existing serial card, and realize the function of broadband access. It establishes the foundation of supporting many kinds of data service in future.
