China have made a great progress since the Reform and Opening, the development ofeconomy and technology bring unprecedented change of our daily life, the application ofsmart card is evident. Over the last decades, Smart card has been formed to smart card-basedclusters which mainly composed by bank cards, SIM card, social security card, IC card and soon. And, as smart city develop strategies be implimented in major cities, combine with3G,4G licenses be issuanced in national telecommunications industry, the demand of smart cardwill appear a new peak.Each smart card is ineffective unless you write serial number or other information associatedwith the user in to the chip. In fact, the forthputting of smart cards is a process of data read and writeswhich achieved by smart card reader. Some of these read and write is going to be researched in thispaper. During the smart card production process, majority card system use the serial port tocommunicate with smart card, but the physical serial port on the PC are limited, that’s clearlyinconsistent with the requirment of controling hundreds of smart card reader do data process at thesame time. Beside, adding more physical serial ports on PC is not only inconvenient but alsouneconomical. Fortunately, the Windows WDM driver architecture provides us a very convenient wayto get more virtual serial ports, and these ports have no difference with the physical serial port on operation.Taking Ethernet relatively higher data transfer rate into consideration, relying on sophisticated8-portgateway network devices, high-speed smart card making machine forming a hardware linkenvironment of PC to network device and then to smart card reader. So, we need to transformnetwork devices into virtual serial ports for software control system. Also, it gets rid of dependence onthird-party devices MOXA switch.To achieve the goal, we need to know Windows WDM driver development frameworkand understand how the Windows operating system adding or removing hardware device.Since Microsoft has built the physical bus driver, the work we need to do is write a kernelprogram representing the hardware processing mechanism.The research needs a series of tests before it is claimed success. We chose high-speedcard machines as a platform to test the performance of the drivers, and introduce system software. To intelligent devices, software systems need to be able to automatically detect networkdevices and automatically mapping virtual serial ports.Under the transfor mechanism of network device to virtual serial ports, the windowsapplication can communicate with the smart card reader just like using physical serial ports. Italso solves the big contradiction between lack of physical serial port and large numberdemand.
