Optical rotary interconnection is a multi-discipline technique, which combines the study of optical transmission, the electronic circuit and the precise mechanical design. And it allows transmission of optical signals through rotating interfaces to stationary apparatus. It is indispensable in the fields of the rotary operation machine. Electrical Slip Ring is replaced by Optic rotary joint as a mode of real-time data transmission, which overcome many disadvantages of the existing transmission systems, such as complex structure, narrow bandwidth, slow speed, weak anti-jamming ability, and so on.There are two segments in this paper, the hardware design of system and the implement of communication protocol. The circuit design of the optical transmission system is the hard core of the hardware design of system, including how to select the communication control chip and the bidirectional transceiver of single fiber, and design of the interface circuit of the photoelectric conversion. This system works according to the asynchronous serial data transmission protocol by programming a CPLD chip. It includes some functions, such as bi-directional data buffer, serial to parallel converter / parallel to serial converter, clock circuit, signal coding/decoding and CRC check logic. It realizes the protocol by means of using the Hardware Describe Language (HDL) for the CPLD chip. The program has a legible structure, and it can neatly change its function if required. It codes or decoders the transmission optical signal by the method of Frequency-Shift Keying in this paper. And it makes the structure of the hardware system simple and the cost cheap that the control logic and the logic of the data transmission are integrated in one CPLD chip.At last, we demonstrate the feasibility of the whole design by experiments, and we also proceeded the theoretical analysis about the constructional paramete(?) index of the rotary mechanical structure. The related problems on improvement are discussed based on these results. This subject can be used on the rotary operation machine in the industrial field and it has extensive application prospects.
