The development of IC technology conditioned an IC chip to integrate more and more parts of a system. It also made it passable for a chip to integrate many kinds of complex functions with the development of light engraving. The technology of VLSI had already developed to a new period of one chip system or System On Chip (SOC). Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC), a specific electronic circuit and system, includes analog, digital and mixed circuit. In developed country the design method of it had turned from tradition mood to modem design mood, which means the changes to the design of electronic circuit and system. Using the software to design hardware is growing gradually in our country in recent years. Some advanced technologies from overseas are now widely used in varied kinds of new electronic instruments and the equipments with electronic circuit. FPGA, because of its flexible designing and high speed, had been used more widely in digital ASIC. Due to the low cost, low dissipated, high reliability and lightweight of ASIC, we can find the application of it in the field of communication, radar, navigation, broadcast, television, instrument, auto-control and compUter. In fact, the ability of ASIC design is now developing fast in our country. In my design, FPGA is the main part. In this paper, I firstly introduce a few knowledge of FPGA such as the structure, peculiarity, design flow and design tools. And my task is to design a random wave generator and a frequency counter. I get the knowledge about FPGA and I think this will make me better to be competent for my job in the future.
