Polymers are usually processed in melt form. Elongational flow properties of the melt not only impact on features of the processing but also on qualities of the final product. It is important to master elongational flow properties of the polymeric material in the theory and practice. RHEO-TENSION are important instruments which have been applied in the scientific research and manufacture widely, to study properties of elongational flow, breaking strength and elongational viscosity. The performance of RHEO-TENSION such as flexibility, abilities of data compatibility, information management and treatment, will be improved greatly by the new technology of computerized measuring and controlling system, and the RHEO-TENSION was used more easily.The current status and development of rheometers was introduced, and studies of computerized RHEO-TENSION measurement and control system were completed in this paper. The procedure, method of implementation and hardware structure, software structure are given. The soft-panel of virtual instrument with multi-function is obtained by use of the integrated design idea of virtual instrument and of the environment of visualized graphic programming. The hardware configuration of the system is simple, the software design is flexible and the GUI (raphical user interface) friendly.This system, act as a host-slave role, ran reliably by establishing serial communication mode and protocol. On the other hand, some advance functions were achieved such as, setting control parameters, correcting the on-line zero and non-linearity of sensors. In order to realize the constant pressure, achieve the aims of the constant mass flow rate, a PID arithmetic with integral separation and parameters real-time adjustment was accomplished in the pressure controller.
